ABOUT GRE

The Graduate Record Examinations (GRE) is a standardized test that is an admission requirement for many graduate schools in the United States and Canada. The GRE is owned and administered by Educational Testing Service (ETS). The test was established in 1936 by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching. Each year over half a million candidates from 160 countries appear for the GRE General Test across 1,000 test centres. Over 1,200 business schools around the world accept GRE scores. The GRE General Test is a computer-delivered test that features question types that test the kind of understanding and critical thinking that graduate school programmes require, such as graduate programmes in business and law.

Module 1

Analytical Writing

Measures critical thinking and analytical writing skills, including the ability to articulate and support complex ideas with relevant reasons and examples, and examine claims and accompanying evidence. The Analytical Writing section also measures your ability to sustain a well-focused, coherent discussion and control the elements of standard written English.

Module 2

Quantitative Reasoning

Primarily measures the ability to understand, interpret and analyze quantitative information, solve problems using mathematical models, and apply the basic concepts of arithmetic, algebra, geometry and data analysis.There is an emphasis on quantitative reasoning skills.The Quantitative Reasoning section measures your ability to:

  • Understand, interpret and analyze quantitative information
  • Solve problems using mathematical models
  • Apply basic skills and elementary concepts of arithmetic, algebra, geometry and data analysis

Module 3

VReasoning

Measures the ability to analyze and draw conclusions from discourse, reason from incomplete data, understand multiple levels of meaning, such as literal, figurative and author's intent, summarize text, distinguish major from minor points, understand the meanings of words, sentences and entire texts, and understand relationships among words and among concepts. The Verbal Reasoning section measures your ability to:

  • nalyze and draw conclusions from discourse; reason from incomplete data; identify author's assumptions and/or perspective; understand multiple levels of meaning, such as literal, figurative and author's intent
  • Select important points; distinguish major from minor or irrelevant points; summarize text; understand the structure of a text
